Local Cherokee tribes tell of a shadowy nightmare beast known as the "Asgina" which roughly translates to "Devil". It was said to haunt numerous tribes in the western Carolina mountains, appearing first in dreams of children, then later manifesting into a physical beast which would terrorize inhabitants. It was said that children were the only ones who could see the beast, and therefore the only ones who could destroy it when it would appear.
