The Linville Caverns northeast of Asheville hold astounding beauty and unbelievable natural formations. The caverns also hold the legend of the Linville Lizard. Said to have been first seen by early explorers of the cave, this mythical monster is said to stand at an astonishing six feet tall, and is known to be adverse to light. Originally thought to be some sort of evolutionary descendant of the prehistoric period, modern day cryptozooligist are more partial to the "reptilian" theory.
